Serial and Parallel Connections

Computer devices communicate in one of two modes: serial or parallel.

In serial mode, the data stream is transmitted one bit at a time.

In parallel mode, multiple bits are sent simultaneously.

Generally, serial cables have DB9 connectors; parallel cables have DB25 connectors.
